Best Time to Visit
The Songhua River Sightseeing Cableway is open to visitors year-round;however,the icy landscapes and sunsets of winter(December–February)are truly magnificent, while the spectacular"river breakup"phenomenon in spring(April)offers a unique,limited-time experience.
Winter Peak Season(December–February):This is the most enchanting season to visit the Songhua River Sightseeing Cableway. The frozen river surface resembles a mirror, the rime ice glistens like crystal, and the"Golden Songhua River"—bathed in the light of the setting sun—is the ultimate reason countless travelers flock to Harbin. We recommend arriving between 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM to catch both the sunset and the evening scenery.
Spring(April):The spectacular annual"river breakup"on the Songhua River is a unique,limited-time experience available only during the spring season.Along the riverbanks, lingering patches of snow interweave with the gently murmuring waters;crystalline ice floes drift by,and waterbirds skim across the surface—evoking both the rugged grandeur of the North and the lively spirit of spring. The period from early to mid-April marks the prime viewing season.
Summer(June–August):Lush greenery provides ample shade, the river teems with sightseeing boats, and the breeze blowing off the water offers a refreshing respite—making this an ideal season for sightseeing and escaping the summer heat.Operating hours are extended until 10:00 PM(22:00),offering a unique charm to a night tour of the Songhua River.
Autumn(September–October):With clear skies and crisp air,the surrounding forests burst into a riot of color;this is an excellent time for photography enthusiasts to capture the city's scenic beauty.
Best Time of Day:The period around sunset in the late afternoon(approximately 3:00 PM–4:30 PM in winter, and 6:00 PM–7:30 PM in summer)serves as the optimal window for sightseeing and photography, allowing visitors to experience three distinct facets of the city's landscape—daytime, sunset, and nighttime—all within a single visit.
