A Millennium Initiative—An Ice and Snow Kingdom Born to Welcome the New Millennium

The story of the Harbin Ice and Snow World began with a grand vision to welcome the new millennium. In 1999,in preparation for the"China Millennium Tour"celebrations, the Harbin municipal government leveraged the region's unique abundance of ice and snow resources to construct a massive ice and snow theme park along the banks of the Songhua River.Through the medium of ice and snow artistry, the park was designed to represent China while showcasing the city's distinctive urban character. That same December, the inaugural Harbin Ice and Snow World was successfully launched,an event that helped elevate Harbin’s"International Ice and Snow Festival"to the ranks of the world's four most renowned ice and snow festivals.

Ice sculptor Li Jiguo witnessed the entire journey of the Ice and Snow World—from its humble beginnings to its current state of magnificence."During the first festival, there were only about five or six entertainment attractions, and the ice slide was just over 90 meters long;with each subsequent year, the scale and scope have continued to expand."Prior to that first festival,Harbin’s ice lanterns and sculptures consisted primarily of standalone ice structures, with the largest pieces reaching a volume of only 3,000 cubic meters. However, following the close of 1999,the Ice and Snow World entered a new era of"ice architecture,"wherein individual ice structures routinely exceeded volumes of 10,000 cubic meters.1.2 Crown of the World:A Glacial Legend Forged Over 27 Years

Over the past 27 years, the Harbin Ice and Snow World has evolved from a fleeting seasonal attraction into a globally acclaimed winter spectacle. In 2010,Harbin was designated a"City of Music"by the United Nations;in 2009,the secondary venue for the Opening Ceremony of the 24th Winter Universiade was hosted at the Ice and Snow World;and in 2025,this site will once again serve as a venue for the 9th Asian Winter Games.

In 2024,the Harbin Ice and Snow World was officially certified by Guinness World Records as the"World's Largest Ice and Snow Theme Park."In 2025,it further solidified its status as the"premier destination"in ice and snow tourism by becoming the only winter cultural and tourism attraction globally to simultaneously appear on six distinct lists within Ctrip’s prestigious"Reputation Rankings."As of February 2026,the Ice and Snow World has successfully completed 27 annual editions, welcoming over one million visitors from around the globe each year—rising from a temporary winter park on the banks of the Songhua River to become the undisputed"King"of global ice and snow tourism.

Natural Wonders:A 1.2-Million-Square-Meter Kingdom of Ice and Snow

The natural wonders of the Harbin Ice and Snow World present an eternal interplay of ice, snow, light, and shadow.

"A Fairytale World of Ice and Snow":An Unprecedented Winter Landscape

For the 2025–2026 winter season, the 27th Harbin Ice and Snow World adopts the theme"A Fairytale World of Ice and Snow."The park's footprint has been expanded from the previous 1 million square meters to an impressive 1.2 million square meters—marking the largest scale in the event's history.Utilizing a total of 400,000 cubic meters of ice and snow, the landscape design and construction embody the core concepts of"cultural essence, historical continuity, and international fusion."The park is imbued with a rich cultural and historical atmosphere, emphasizing an aesthetic pursuit where international expression and local culture coexist and flourish in harmony.

The park features an innovative layout centered on three major thematic axes, establishing a multi-dimensional network of attractions. The first axis,"Memories of the Ice City,"begins at the main entrance—modeled after the historic Harbin Railway Station—and connects a series of urban landmarks, including the central tower"Ice Lantern Dreams"and the Chinese Baroque Historical and Cultural District. The second axis, the"Ice and Snow Art and Performance Axis,"starts at the central tower and winds past attractions such as the Twelve Zodiac Ice Sculptures and the CMG(China Media Group)"Northernmost Ice and Snow Studio,"leading directly to the"Grand Dream Stage"—modeled after the Yangmingtan Bridge. The third axis originates at the"Birthplace of Ice Lanterns"landscape cluster;passing through the"Fairytale Kingdom,"it seamlessly integrates diverse cultural elements from the Guest Nation(Belgium),the Guest Provinces(Shandong and Fujian),and the Guest City(Shenzhen),thereby achieving a truly harmonious fusion of Chinese and international ice and snow aesthetics.

Wonders in Ice:Towering Grandeur and Exquisite Castles

The most magnificent ice structure in this year's park is the central tower,"Ice Lantern Dreams."Constructed using a staggering 39,000 cubic meters of ice,it stands as both the tallest and largest single ice structure within the park. The main entrance gate, modeled after the classic silhouette of the Harbin Railway Station, faithfully recreates the profound historical gravitas of this century-old transportation hub;standing 14.5 meters tall,it required 2,200 cubic meters of ice to construct.Throughout the park, visitors will discover a dazzling array of additional ice and snow landscapes—including"Welcoming Wings,"the Guest Province/City landscape clusters, the"Fairytale Kingdom,"the"Dream Castle,"the"Yellow Crane Tower,"and"Ice Horses Chasing Dreams."Whether grand and majestic, romantic and whimsical,or delicate and refined, these spectacles offer a feast for the eyes that leaves visitors spellbound.Serving as the park's welcoming vanguard is the 15-meter-tall"Fairytale Snowman Family"snow sculpture, crafted from nearly 4,000 cubic meters of snow;the steadfastness of the Snowman Father, the tenderness of the Snowman Mother, and the playful spirit of the Snowman Baby are all sculpted with lifelike vividness.2.2 Artistic Craftsmanship:Icy Revelry and World-Class Entertainment

Super Ice Slide:A Heart-Pounding Rush Across 24 Tracks

The Super Ice Slide reigns supreme as the most popular attraction at the Harbin Ice and Snow World every year. This year features a total of 24 tracks, with the longest stretching an impressive 521 meters. As visitors hurtle down from the heights—past crystalline ice walls flashing by on either side, with the whistling wind and their own screams ringing in their ears—they experience the park's most exhilarating thrill ride.

>Photography Tips:Shoot panoramic views of the ice slides after dusk once the lights are illuminated;use a long exposure setting to capture the streaks of light flowing down the tracks. The main tower,"Ice Lantern Dream,"is best photographed within half an hour after sunset;when the lights come on,it transforms into a magnificent ice crystal palace.

Snowflake Ferris Wheel:An Icy Panorama from 120 Meters Up

Standing 120 meters tall, the Snowflake Ferris Wheel offers a unique vantage point for a bird's-eye view of the entire Ice and Snow Kingdom. As you ascend slowly in the Ferris wheel, the entire Ice and Snow World unfolds beneath you—the park dotted with towering ice structures, the dazzling lights of the dreamlike castle, and the joyful laughter of crowds of visitors—making it the perfect spot to capture epic,cinematic-style photos.

Dream Stage:An Icy City Night of Mass Snow-Dancing

The fully upgraded performances at the"Dream Stage"this winter place an even greater emphasis on audience interaction.Led by host"Brother Zuoyou,"the mass dance parties—involving thousands of revelers—are a high-energy sensation, featuring segments such as group singing,dance-offs,"Northeast Dialect"challenges, and prize giveaways. The entertainment system has been upgraded to a"Dual Stage+Grand Parade"model;the original Dream Stage now harmonizes with the brand-new"Ice and Snow Stage."Furthermore, the grand fantasy showThe King's Chariothas undergone a comprehensive upgrade in terms of storyline, cast, and audiovisual effects, while the ice-and-snow-themed parade now creates a park-wide interactive spectacle.

Fantasy Ice and Snow Pavilion:A Four-Season Ice Palace That Defies the Seasons

Located within the park, the Fantasy Ice and Snow Pavilion holds the Guinness World Record title for the"Largest Indoor Ice and Snow Theme Park."Spanning a total floor area of23,800 square meters, the pavilion maintains a constant temperature of-8°C to-12°C year-round.It ingeniously blends elements of colored ice, lighting effects, and interactive technology to create over 20 distinct ice-sculpted scenic zones.Regardless of the season—be it spring, summer, autumn,or winter—visitors here can always experience the pure joy of a snowy winter wonderland.Even when temperatures in many southern regions soar above 40°C,visitors from the south don down jackets to linger endlessly within this icy marvel."It’s absolutely incredible!I’ve only ever seen such exquisite ice sculptures on TV;seeing them with my own eyes this time is simply spectacular and truly breathtaking."

Asian Winter Games Elements and New Year's Eve Festivities

The 9th Asian Winter Games(2025)is deeply integrated with the Harbin Ice and Snow World. The park incorporates various elements of the Asian Winter Games;its main entrance gate—titled"Sharing the Dream of Ice and Snow"—features an interwoven design of ice, snow, and heart shapes, symbolizing that nations and regions across Asia share a common dream regarding ice and snow.A sub-venue for the 9th Asian Winter Games is situated within the Harbin Ice and Snow World, creating a theme park composed of ice sculptures depicting representative architectural landmarks from various Asian countries and regions. On New Year's Eve,the Harbin Ice and Snow World partnered with Ctrip Group to host the"A Journey Like a Song"New Year's Eve Concert. This event combined a spectacular fireworks display,a formation performance by thousands of drones, and the park's own dazzling ice lanterns to paint a truly dreamy night sky over this northern land.
