Hongya Cave

Hongya Cave

Chongqing Hongya Cave, a tiered architectural marvel clinging to Jialing River’s cliffs, is China’s most cinematic urban landscape. Blending Ba-Yu traditional architecture with modern commercial flair, this 11-story complex spans 50,000 square meters, offering riverside bars, souvenir shops, and panoramic views of Chongqing’s skyline. Designated a 4A National Tourist Attraction in 2007, it has become a global icon for “cyberpunk China,” drawing comparisons to Tokyo’s Shibuya and Bangkok’s Yaowara

Historical Overview

Originally a Ming Dynasty military fort, the site evolved into a bustling tea-horse trading post by the Qing Dynasty. After World War II, it fell into disrepair until 2002, when a ¥385 million renovation transformed it into a cultural-commercial hub. Key milestones include the 2006 opening of the “Thousand-Year-Old Chongqing” exhibition, the 2018 installation of holographic light shows, and its cameo in the 2019 film Ne Zha. Today, it hosts the annual Hongya Cave Fireworks Festival and serves as a backdrop for fashion shoots.

Structural Layout

The complex is built into a 75-meter cliff, featuring nine public access levels and two hidden service floors:Riverside Level (1F): Floating restaurants, cruise boat docks, and the “Ciqikou Ancient Town” entrance.

Commercial Zone (2–5F): Boutiques selling Shu embroidery, Sichuan Opera masks, and chili oil souvenirs.

Cultural Zone (6–8F): The “Thousand-Year-Old Chongqing” museum, teahouses, and a 1940s-style movie theater.

Observation Deck (9F): A glass-floored skywalk with views of Chaotianmen Square and the Yangtze River.

Hidden Floors (-1F & -2F): Parking, utilities, and a 24-hour seafood market.

Shopping on Nanjing Road in Shanghai was just amazing! It's truly the "First Commercial Street of China", where tradition and modernity blend perfectly. You can find awesome souvenirs and experience the trendy vibes in cool stores. The neon lights at night are just spectacular, shining bright like Times Square in New York. The food here is incredible too. I had a feast for my taste buds. Shanghai, I'll definitely be back!

As a solo traveler from Canada, I was nervous about navigating China alone—but this 11-day tour was PERFECT! From hiking the Great Wall at sunrise (Day 3) to gasping at the Terracotta Army (Day 5), every day delivered ‘pinch-me’ moments. The real showstopper? Zhangjiajie’s Avatar Mountains (Day 7)! Our guide made the stone pillars come alive with stories. Massive thanks for handling all logistics—bullet train tickets, entry passes, car! And the 4-star hotels surprised me.

Our 2-day Zhangjiajie tour was beyond spectacular! As someone who’s visited Beijing and Shanghai for work, this trip revealed China’s wild, magical heart. Day 1 in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park felt like stepping onto Pandora—I’m a huge Avatar fan, and Yuanjiajie’s floating peaks left me breathless. The misty pillars and lush valleys like pure movie magic! Then came Fenghuang Ancient Town, we eat dinner beside the thundering waterfall. It seems Unreal! The night views of stilt houses glowing over the river were straight from a fairy tale. For fellow Avatar lovers and adventure seekers: Don’t miss this bucket-list experience! 10/10 would return.
