Origin: From "Hope for Peace" to "Trendy Wharf"

Tracing the Origin of Street Names - Two Wishes of "Wangping"
The name 'Wangping' carries the simple yet profound wishes of the people of Chengdu. There are two main ways of naming it:
I hope for peace. According to the "Chengdu Streets and Alleys Chronicles", in 1924, warlords in Chengdu engaged in chaos and the people were struggling to make ends meet. The people yearned for a peaceful and peaceful life, so they named this street "Wangping Street" to express the voice of the people.
I hope for peace. It is said that this place is related to the Jiangjiangtai where Zhuge Liang trained his army during the Three Kingdoms period. Soldiers set out from here, and the people hoped that they could return safely, hence the name.
Regardless of the wording, the word 'Wangping' embodies people's longing for a stable and beautiful life, and this name has also traveled through a hundred years, becoming the cornerstone of today's cultural heritage in the neighborhood.

The Road to Rebirth - From Industrial Remnants to Trendy Landmarks
The modern transformation of Wangping Street is a vivid epic of urban organic renewal:
Market Memory (Early): In earlier historical periods, Wangping Street and its surrounding areas were famous markets for collecting, storing, and transporting feces in Chengdu, formerly known as "Golden Cellars".
Industrial Age (after the 1950s): After the disappearance of the "Golden Cellar", the Chengdu People's Paper Box Factory, which represented advanced production at that time, was established here and flourished, becoming an important local industrial enterprise.
Silence and Dilemma (Early 21st Century): With the development of the times, old factory areas and courtyards gradually lose their vitality, and the streets appear chaotic, which is incompatible with the bustling Chunxi Road commercial district just a stone's throw away.
Craftsmanship Reshaping (after 2018): Chengdu has launched the Tianfu Jincheng "Eight Streets, Nine Blocks, and Ten Scenes" project to carry out systematic urban renewal in the Mengzhuowan area. The renovation adheres to the concept of "old Chengdu, Sichuan style, international style", preserves the historical texture, and introduces new business models.
Stunning Butterfly Transformation (2019 present): In the autumn of 2019, Wangpingfang, which was transformed from the original cardboard box factory and the old office building of the National Taxation Bureau, made a brilliant appearance. Nowadays, it receives over 8 million visitors annually, becoming a vivid window for interpreting the concept of "park city" and showcasing the aesthetics of Chengdu's lifestyle.

Must see spectacle: a symphonic poem of fireworks and trends

Furong Ancient Town Furong Ancient Town

The charm of Wangping Street lies in its perfect fusion of natural comfort and humanistic creativity, with the tranquil flowing Jinjiang River on one side and the hot and bustling city life on the other.
Natural Creation - The Melodious Slow Board by the Jinjiang River
The "natural" landscape of Wangping Street is a microcosm of the harmonious coexistence of "fireworks" and "ecology" in Chengdu, a park city.
The River of Vitality: The Millennium Pulse of Jinjiang
The Jinjiang River (Fuhe River) flowing through the block is the mother river of Chengdu and has also experienced pollution. After continuous governance, it is now a happy river and lake with smooth rivers, clear water, green banks, and beautiful scenery. On Wangping Street, you can:
Strolling by the River: Walk slowly along the riverside trail, enjoy the water, flowers, and birds, and feel the gentle breeze brushing your face.
Boiling tea around the stove: Experience the leisurely "dragon gate formation" of Chengdu people at an open-air tea house by the river.
Night Tour of Jinjiang: Take a night cruise by boat from the nearby Dongmen Pier, see the dazzling light and shadow on both sides, and experience the blending of ancient and modern art of the "thousands of boats from Dongwu" docked at the gate.
Sky Tower: 339 City Lighthouse
Accidentally looking up, one of Chengdu's landmarks - Tianfu Panda Tower (339 TV Tower) will always quietly enter your field of vision. It is a symbol of modern Chengdu, framed with the smoke and fire of the old streets, forming a highly dynamic urban picture and an excellent backdrop for photography enthusiasts.

Humanistic Craftsmanship - Creative Forest Growing in Streets and Alleys
Every building and alley here is not a cold backdrop, but a container that carries memories and life.
The Corridor of Time and Space and the Story Museum of Mengzhuowan
The "Time Space Corridor" at the main entrance of the block connects to the Mengzhuowan Story Museum. Here, digital technology and 3D projection are used to vividly showcase the "past and present" of Mengzhuowan. You can also listen to Sichuan opera in the "Micro Tea House", which is the first stop to understand the history of the neighborhood.
Xiangxiang Lane: A culinary world at a depth of 100 meters
A narrow alley that is no more than a hundred meters long and only a few meters wide is famous for its dense neon signs and fragrant cuisine. There are Zigong Dishes of Salt School, Sichuan style hot pot, Japanese style restaurant, Thai style restaurant... "Although the sparrow is small, it has all five internal organs", which is the concentrated essence of Chengdu's diversified food culture.
Geometry Bookstore: A Spiritual Habitat in the Cave
The unique cave style spiral staircase, transformed from an old office building, has become a popular check-in spot for internet celebrities. This is not only a bookstore, but also a complex cultural space where you can read books, drink coffee, do handicrafts, and experience the artistic atmosphere of Chengdu.
Meihua Drama Society: The Living Inheritance of Sichuan Music for a Century
In the theater in the neighborhood, you can watch authentic Sichuan opera performances, including face changing, spitting fire, rolling lights and other unique skills. This is the most direct and vivid way to experience the traditional culture of Bashu.
Wangpingfang and Original Paper Box Factory Creative Store
The old factory building of the former Chengdu People's Paper Box Factory has been given a new lease on life, transforming into a gathering place for numerous independent designer brands, cultural and creative stores, boutique coffee shops, and buying shops. The dialogue between old and new buildings is the best footnote to the "organic renewal" concept of Wangping Street.

Photography tips:
Best panoramic camera position: Standing in the middle section of the riverside trail, facing the Jinjiang River, it can capture the river scenery, leisurely crowds, and the distant 339 TV Tower together in the camera.
Best Street View Location: Entrance to Xiangxiang Lane, utilizing the sense of depth in the alley to capture the bustling scene of neon lights flashing and crowds interweaving.
Best architectural location: The spiral staircase of the Geometry Bookstore allows for visually striking compositions when shooting from bottom to top or from top to bottom.
Best humanistic position: The audience seat of Meihua Drama Society, capturing the wonderful moments of the actors on stage and the intoxicated expressions of the audience below.

Shopping on Nanjing Road in Shanghai was just amazing! It's truly the "First Commercial Street of China", where tradition and modernity blend perfectly. You can find awesome souvenirs and experience the trendy vibes in cool stores. The neon lights at night are just spectacular, shining bright like Times Square in New York. The food here is incredible too. I had a feast for my taste buds. Shanghai, I'll definitely be back!

Our 2-day Zhangjiajie tour was beyond spectacular! As someone who’s visited Beijing and Shanghai for work, this trip revealed China’s wild, magical heart. Day 1 in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park felt like stepping onto Pandora—I’m a huge Avatar fan, and Yuanjiajie’s floating peaks left me breathless. The misty pillars and lush valleys like pure movie magic! Then came Fenghuang Ancient Town, we eat dinner beside the thundering waterfall. It seems Unreal! The night views of stilt houses glowing over the river were straight from a fairy tale. For fellow Avatar lovers and adventure seekers: Don’t miss this bucket-list experience! 10/10 would return.
