  • Suzhou - Lion Forest Garden - The Humble Administrator's Garden - Shantang Street - The Tiger Hill

  • 4+stars Hotel

First, you will come to the Lion Forest Garden, an ancient garden famous for its unique lion-shaped rockery. It is one of the four famous gardens in Suzhou and an outstanding representative of Yuan Dynasty gardens.

Then we will go to the Humble Administrator's Garden, which is regarded as one of the "Four Famous Gardens of China" and is a masterpiece of Suzhou's gardens. The rocks, ponds, waterfalls, streams and other elements in the garden blend with each other to form a beautiful ink scroll. Here, you can enjoy the ancient pavilions, winding streams and paths, lush green vegetation, and skillful carvings!

Afterwards, take a stroll to Shantang Ancient Street to experience the trading and cultural center of the Ming and Qing Dynasties.

Afterwards, we will arrange a cruise for you, departing from Shantang Street directly to Tiger Hill. On the cruise, you will also be able to enjoy Pingtan - a musical and oral performance art form that has been popular in Suzhou for a long time.

In the afternoon, you will embark on a journey to explore Suzhou's Tiger Hill, which is a famous scenic spot with a long history of more than 2500 years. As Su Shi, a famous poet of the Song Dynasty (960-1279), said, "to visit Suzhou and not see Tiger Hill would lead to a lifetime of regret".

Shopping on Nanjing Road in Shanghai was just amazing! It's truly the "First Commercial Street of China", where tradition and modernity blend perfectly. You can find awesome souvenirs and experience the trendy vibes in cool stores. The neon lights at night are just spectacular, shining bright like Times Square in New York. The food here is incredible too. I had a feast for my taste buds. Shanghai, I'll definitely be back!

As a solo traveler from Canada, I was nervous about navigating China alone—but this 11-day tour was PERFECT! From hiking the Great Wall at sunrise (Day 3) to gasping at the Terracotta Army (Day 5), every day delivered ‘pinch-me’ moments. The real showstopper? Zhangjiajie’s Avatar Mountains (Day 7)! Our guide made the stone pillars come alive with stories. Massive thanks for handling all logistics—bullet train tickets, entry passes, car! And the 4-star hotels surprised me.

Our 2-day Zhangjiajie tour was beyond spectacular! As someone who’s visited Beijing and Shanghai for work, this trip revealed China’s wild, magical heart. Day 1 in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park felt like stepping onto Pandora—I’m a huge Avatar fan, and Yuanjiajie’s floating peaks left me breathless. The misty pillars and lush valleys like pure movie magic! Then came Fenghuang Ancient Town, we eat dinner beside the thundering waterfall. It seems Unreal! The night views of stilt houses glowing over the river were straight from a fairy tale. For fellow Avatar lovers and adventure seekers: Don’t miss this bucket-list experience! 10/10 would return. Q & A

Asked by Aldington from Australia | August 01,2025 13:27
What’s the weather like in December? Will the gardens be closed if it snows?
Answered by intotravelchina | August 01,2025 13:28
December in Suzhou is chilly (3–10°C/37–50°F) but charming: Gardens in winter: Open year-round, even in snow! Snow dusting the pavilions and evergreen pines in Humble Administrator’s Garden is magical. Events: Shantang Street hangs red lanterns for the winter solstice (late December)—very festive. What to wear: Warm coat, gloves, and thick socks—gardens have windier spots. Crowds are smaller, so you’ll enjoy peaceful views—many travelers prefer winter for its quiet beauty.
Asked by Lytton from Canada | August 01,2025 13:11
What’s the difference between Lion Forest and the Humble Administrator’s Garden?
Answered by intotravelchina | August 01,2025 13:28
They’re distinct masterpieces! Lion Forest (Yuan Dynasty, 1342): Focuses on rockery art—a 1-acre maze of 600+ limestone rocks (shaped like lions, dragons) with hidden paths. It’s playful, like a 3D puzzle, reflecting the Yuan Dynasty’s love for philosophical "mystery." Humble Administrator’s Garden (Ming Dynasty, 1509): Celebrates water and space—a 52-acre landscape of lakes, bridges, and pavilions designed to mimic nature. It’s serene, with views that change at every turn, embodying the Ming ideal of "retreating to nature." Visiting both shows how Suzhou’s garden design evolved—you’ll appreciate their unique personalities.
Asked by Morley from Germany | August 01,2025 11:41
Can you climb on Lion Forest, or are they just for viewing?
Answered by intotravelchina | August 01,2025 13:28
Lion Forest’s rockeries are meant to be explored—you can climb them! They’re a maze of limestone paths, tunnels, and small peaks (safe for kids with supervision). The rocks are worn smooth by centuries of visitors, but there are gentle routes for younger kids. Staff patrol the area, and our guide will map a kid-friendly path (avoiding the steepest sections). Your 8-year-old will love the "adventure" of finding hidden pavilions atop the rocks!
Asked by Leona Madge from Nigeria | August 01,2025 11:24
The tour mentions "local lunch"—what kind of dishes will we have?
Answered by intotravelchina | August 01,2025 13:29
Suzhou’s lunch will feature fresh, seasonal flavors! Vegetarian options: Buddha’s Delight (mixed mushrooms, tofu, and bamboo shoots in soy sauce), stir-fried water chestnuts (crunchy, lightly sweet), and silk noodles with vegetable broth. Non-vegetarian: Squirrel-shaped mandarin fish (sweet-sour sauce, a Suzhou classic) and braised pork ribs (mildly sweet). Chefs are happy to reduce sugar—just tell our guide, who’ll communicate your preference. Dishes balance sweet with umami, so even less sweet versions taste authentic.
Asked by Ted Fanny from Liberia | August 01,2025 10:51
I’m traveling from Shanghai to join this tour.
What’s the best way to get to the meeting point in Suzhou?
Answered by intotravelchina | August 01,2025 13:29
The best option is the high-speed train from Shanghai Hongqiao to Suzhou Railway Station (30–40 minutes). We recommend taking the 7:30 AM train to arrive by 8:15 AM, giving you time to reach the meeting point (5-minute walk from the station’s east exit) by 8:45 AM. Suzhou Railway Station has left-luggage lockers (20–50 RMB/day, depending on size) if you need to store bags—perfect for travelers checking out of hotels.
