Tian'anmen Square--Forbidden City--Summer Palace--Hutongs

4+ stars Hotels

After breakfast, we will arrive at Tian'anmen Square, one of the largest city squares in the world and a symbol of modern China. Standing in the square, you will see the Tian'anmen Tower, where Chairman Mao declared the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949.

From there, we will walk into the Forbidden City, the largest and best-preserved imperial palace complex in the world. Once home to 24 emperors during the Ming and Qing dynasties, the palace showcases ancient Chinese architecture at its finest. Wander through the grand halls and courtyards, and imagine life inside the royal court.

After lunch, we will drive to the Summer Palace, the largest royal garden in China. Known for its stunning natural scenery and elegant pavilions, the palace served as a summer retreat for emperors. Stroll along the famous Long Corridor, enjoy views of Kunming Lake, and admire the intricate designs of the Marble Boat.

In the late afternoon, we will explore Beijing's traditional Hutongs. These narrow alleys, lined with historic courtyard homes, offer a glimpse into local life. You will take a rickshaw ride through the winding lanes and visit a local family to learn more about the customs and culture of old Beijing.

At the end of the tour, we will return to the city center, leaving you with unforgettable memories of Beijing's imperial splendor and everyday charm.

Experience the best of Beijing in a single day! Visit the historic Tiananmen Square and the grand Forbidden City, once home to emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties. Explore the scenic Summer Palace with its lakes, pavilions, and imperial gardens. Then, dive into local culture with a rickshaw ride through the traditional Hutongs—narrow alleyways that reveal the charm of old Beijing. This tour offers a perfect blend of history, beauty, and local life.

Shopping on Nanjing Road in Shanghai was just amazing! It's truly the "First Commercial Street of China", where tradition and modernity blend perfectly. You can find awesome souvenirs and experience the trendy vibes in cool stores. The neon lights at night are just spectacular, shining bright like Times Square in New York. The food here is incredible too. I had a feast for my taste buds. Shanghai, I'll definitely be back!

As a solo traveler from Canada, I was nervous about navigating China alone—but this 11-day tour was PERFECT! From hiking the Great Wall at sunrise (Day 3) to gasping at the Terracotta Army (Day 5), every day delivered ‘pinch-me’ moments. The real showstopper? Zhangjiajie’s Avatar Mountains (Day 7)! Our guide made the stone pillars come alive with stories. Massive thanks for handling all logistics—bullet train tickets, entry passes, car! And the 4-star hotels surprised me.

Our 2-day Zhangjiajie tour was beyond spectacular! As someone who’s visited Beijing and Shanghai for work, this trip revealed China’s wild, magical heart. Day 1 in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park felt like stepping onto Pandora—I’m a huge Avatar fan, and Yuanjiajie’s floating peaks left me breathless. The misty pillars and lush valleys like pure movie magic! Then came Fenghuang Ancient Town, we eat dinner beside the thundering waterfall. It seems Unreal! The night views of stilt houses glowing over the river were straight from a fairy tale. For fellow Avatar lovers and adventure seekers: Don’t miss this bucket-list experience! 10/10 would return. Q & A

Asked by Boyd Mary from UK | July 11,2025 11:23
Can we change the order of the attractions visited during the tour?
Answered by intotravelchina | July 11,2025 11:45
In general, it's not easy to change the order of the attractions visited. The itinerary is carefully planned to ensure a smooth flow and to make the most of your time. Each attraction has its own opening hours and traffic conditions need to be considered when moving between them. However, if there are special circumstances, you can discuss it with our tour operator in advance.
Asked by Sander from US | July 11,2025 11:12
Can we interact with the local family we visit in the Hutongs?
Answered by intotravelchina | July 11,2025 11:21
Definitely! Interacting with the local family is a great part of the Hutong experience. You can ask them questions about their daily life, traditions, and customs. They'll be happy to share their stories and give you a deeper understanding of old Beijing culture.
Asked by Julius Carter from US | July 11,2025 11:04
Can we take photos freely inside the Forbidden City and the Summer Palace?
Answered by intotravelchina | July 11,2025 11:21
Absolutely! You're allowed to take photos freely inside both the Forbidden City and the Summer Palace. These two places are full of stunning architectural details and beautiful scenery, so you'll have plenty of opportunities to capture great shots. Just be respectful of other visitors and follow any signs or instructions from the staff.
