Potala Palace--Barkhor Street--Sera Monastery--Tibetan Cuisine Experience

4-star Hotel

None

After breakfast, our first stop is the world-famous Potala Palace. Standing majestically on the Red Hill, it is an iconic symbol of Lhasa and Tibet. This magnificent palace complex combines Tibetan, Chinese, and Nepalese architectural styles. The White Palace was mainly used for the living quarters of the Dalai Lamas, while the Red Palace houses numerous precious Buddhist scriptures, colorful murals that depict religious stories and historical events, and exquisite statues of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. As you ascend the steps and enter the palace, you'll be awed by its grandeur and the solemn religious atmosphere.

Just a short distance from the Potala Palace, we'll arrive at the vibrant Barkhor Street. This is a bustling street that circles around the Jokhang Temple. It's filled with shops selling various Tibetan handicrafts, such as beautiful thangkas (religious paintings on silk or cloth), colorful prayer beads, and traditional Tibetan clothing. As you stroll along the street, you can also observe the pilgrims circumambulating the temple with great devotion, which is a unique sight that reflects the deep religious beliefs of the local people. After spending an hour or so in the temple, it's time for lunch.

After lunch, we'll head to the Sera Monastery. It is one of the three major monasteries in Lhasa and is renowned for its unique "Monk Debates" that take place in the afternoons. As you enter the monastery, you'll see the beautiful Tibetan-style architecture, with the white walls and red roofs standing out against the blue sky. Inside, there are many Buddhist scriptures, religious artifacts, and beautiful murals. The highlight is definitely watching the young monks engaging in lively debates. They use vivid gestures and passionate voices to discuss Buddhist doctrines, which is not only an interesting cultural sight but also a great opportunity to learn about the profound religious traditions of Tibetan Buddhism.

For dinner, we'll continue to explore the charm of Tibetan cuisine. There are many special dishes to choose from, such as Tibetan blood sausage, which has a unique taste and texture, or a bowl of Tibetan-style noodle soup with fresh vegetables and rich broth.

Tibet Museum--Jokhang Temple--Norbulingka--Nanshan Park

4-star Hotel

Breakfast

After breakfast, we'll visit the Tibet Museum. It is a comprehensive museum that showcases the rich history, culture, and art of Tibet. There are a vast number of exhibits on display, including ancient pottery, bronze ware, religious artifacts from different historical periods, as well as detailed introductions to the unique ethnic traditions and folk customs of Tibet. Through the exhibitions, you can trace the development of Tibet over the years and gain a deeper understanding of its profound cultural heritage.

Next, we'll visit the sacred Jokhang Temple. It is one of the most important religious sites in Tibetan Buddhism and has a history dating back to the 7th century. The temple's architecture is a blend of different styles, presenting a solemn and imposing appearance. Inside, there are many precious Buddha statues, among which the Jowo Shakyamuni statue is highly venerated. The air is filled with the fragrance of incense and the warm glow of butter lamps. You can follow the pilgrims' footsteps, offer your prayers, and feel the profound religious atmosphere.

As noon approaches, we'll make our way to the Norbulingka. It was once the summer palace of the Dalai Lamas and is now a beautiful park filled with gardens, palaces, and pavilions. The architecture here combines traditional Tibetan styles with some modern elements, creating a harmonious and elegant environment. You can take a leisurely walk through the gardens, enjoy the beautiful flowers and trees, and visit the various palaces to see the exquisite interior decorations and historical exhibits. It's a great place to relax and learn about the lifestyle of the former Tibetan rulers. After exploring for a while, it's time for lunch.

After lunch, we'll head to the Nanshan Park. It offers a panoramic view of Lhasa city, especially a beautiful vista of the Potala Palace. You can climb up the hill along the paths in the park, enjoying the fresh air and the natural scenery on the way. Once you reach the viewing platforms, you'll be able to take in the magnificent sight of the city spread out below, with the Potala Palace standing as the centerpiece. It's also a great place to take some wonderful photos.

Shopping on Nanjing Road in Shanghai was just amazing! It's truly the "First Commercial Street of China", where tradition and modernity blend perfectly. You can find awesome souvenirs and experience the trendy vibes in cool stores. The neon lights at night are just spectacular, shining bright like Times Square in New York. The food here is incredible too. I had a feast for my taste buds. Shanghai, I'll definitely be back!

As a solo traveler from Canada, I was nervous about navigating China alone—but this 11-day tour was PERFECT! From hiking the Great Wall at sunrise (Day 3) to gasping at the Terracotta Army (Day 5), every day delivered ‘pinch-me’ moments. The real showstopper? Zhangjiajie’s Avatar Mountains (Day 7)! Our guide made the stone pillars come alive with stories. Massive thanks for handling all logistics—bullet train tickets, entry passes, car! And the 4-star hotels surprised me.

Our 2-day Zhangjiajie tour was beyond spectacular! As someone who’s visited Beijing and Shanghai for work, this trip revealed China’s wild, magical heart. Day 1 in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park felt like stepping onto Pandora—I’m a huge Avatar fan, and Yuanjiajie’s floating peaks left me breathless. The misty pillars and lush valleys like pure movie magic! Then came Fenghuang Ancient Town, we eat dinner beside the thundering waterfall. It seems Unreal! The night views of stilt houses glowing over the river were straight from a fairy tale. For fellow Avatar lovers and adventure seekers: Don’t miss this bucket-list experience! 10/10 would return.
