09:00 - 10:00: Yangtze River Ropeway
The day begins with a heart-pounding ride on the Yangtze River Ropeway, Chongqing's famous "air bus." Visitors board at the North Station on Xinhua Road and glide across the river in about 7 minutes, with the shimmering Yangtze below and the city skyline unfolding on both banks. The ropeway runs daily 08:00-22:00 (about 20 RMB one way); the group spends about one hour including the crossing and photo stops.

10:15 - 11:15: Eighteen Stairs (Shibati)
Next, visitors walk to the Eighteen Stairs, an ancient stone staircase quarter full of old Chongqing character. The weathered steps and mottled houses have witnessed the city's vicissitudes, while today the lanes buzz with handicraft shops and local snack stalls. Visitors spend about one hour climbing the historic lanes, feeling the blend of tradition and renewal. (Free entry, open all day; near Jiefangbei.)
11:30 - 12:30: Jiefangbei
The group then reaches Jiefangbei, the commercial heart and symbol of Chongqing. The Liberation Monument gleams in the sunlight amid a ring of skyscrapers, showcasing the city's modernity and vitality. Visitors stroll through the busy pedestrian streets, taking in the shops, billboards and street life of this fashion-forward district. The visit lasts about one hour, with lunch available nearby.
12:30 - 13:30: Lunch
Lunch will be arranged at a local restaurant in the Jiefangbei area, offering classic Chongqing dishes — hotpot, xiao mian noodles and suānlàfěn. The break lasts about one hour, giving the group a rest before the afternoon's climbs.
13:45 - 15:00: Eling No. 2 Factory
In the early afternoon, visitors head up to the Eling No. 2 Factory (TESTBED2), a creative park converted from an old printing factory on the hillside of Eling. The industrial shell now holds art exhibitions, design studios and indie cafes, blending rusty machinery with modern art. Visitors wander the terraced lanes for about one hour and a quarter, with panoramic views of the Yuzhong skyline.
15:15 - 16:15: Liziba Light-Rail Through
Just downhill, the group arrives at the spectacle of the Liziba Light Rail — the famous monorail that glides straight through a residential building on Metro Line 2. From the 1,367-square-metre viewing platform, visitors watch the train emerge from the 8th floor of the tower and capture the classic shot of the "light rail through the house." The visit lasts about one hour.
17:00 - 20:00: Ciqikou Ancient Town at Night
As night falls, the group takes the Metro to Ciqikou Ancient Town by the Jialing River, a thousand-year-old water town known as "Little Chongqing." Lanterns glow along the green-stone lanes, lined with ancient houses, craft shops and spicy snacks. Visitors may stop at a teahouse for a Sichuan Opera face-changing show — a vivid taste of Bayu culture. Dinner at local stalls; return to the hotel around 20:00. (Free entry, open all day.)

1-Day Chongqing Walking Tour Beyond the Loop

The ropeway and the light rail give you the city's height; the old quarter gives you its depth. Save the evening for the cliff-house lights, climb the alley in the morning, and let the guild hall tell you who built this place. That is how a Chongqing tour becomes more than a checklist.

See the Cliff Houses Glow at Hongyadong

Stacked like stilted houses on the Jialing cliff, Hongyadong's eleven floors glow gold after dark. Lantern-lit lanes wind up as the river mirrors the lights — Chongqing's most photographed night.

Climb the Lantern-Lit Lane of Shancheng Alley

Carved into the hillside since the Ming-Qing era, Shancheng Alley climbs past plank walkways and old homes. Once the lantern-lit "Sky Street," it still hums with mountain-city life, the Yangtze opening between rooftops.

Step Into the Huguang Guild Hall's Migration Story

The Huguang Guild Hall is the largest ancient guild complex in any Chinese city center. Its carved beams and stage towers tell the "Huguang Fills Sichuan" migration — look up, slowly.

Step Into the Huguang Guild Hall's Migration Story

A note on honesty: this guide adds to the classic Chongqing walking tour, which already covers the Yangtze River Ropeway, the Eighteen Stairs, Jiefangbei, the Eling No. 2 Factory, the Liziba light rail, and Ciqikou at night. The cliff houses, alley, guild hall, and city wall here are free to enter but sit outside that loop, so add them on a second day or an evening extension. Lunch and the ropeway fare are not included in the standard price.

Shopping on Nanjing Road in Shanghai was just amazing! It's truly the "First Commercial Street of China", where tradition and modernity blend perfectly. You can find awesome souvenirs and experience the trendy vibes in cool stores. The neon lights at night are just spectacular, shining bright like Times Square in New York. The food here is incredible too. I had a feast for my taste buds. Shanghai, I'll definitely be back!

As a solo traveler from Canada, I was nervous about navigating China alone—but this 11-day tour was PERFECT! From hiking the Great Wall at sunrise (Day 3) to gasping at the Terracotta Army (Day 5), every day delivered ‘pinch-me’ moments. The real showstopper? Zhangjiajie’s Avatar Mountains (Day 7)! Our guide made the stone pillars come alive with stories. Massive thanks for handling all logistics—bullet train tickets, entry passes, car! And the 4-star hotels surprised me.

Our 2-day Zhangjiajie tour was beyond spectacular! As someone who’s visited Beijing and Shanghai for work, this trip revealed China’s wild, magical heart. Day 1 in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park felt like stepping onto Pandora—I’m a huge Avatar fan, and Yuanjiajie’s floating peaks left me breathless. The misty pillars and lush valleys like pure movie magic! Then came Fenghuang Ancient Town, we eat dinner beside the thundering waterfall. It seems Unreal! The night views of stilt houses glowing over the river were straight from a fairy tale. For fellow Avatar lovers and adventure seekers: Don’t miss this bucket-list experience! 10/10 would return.
