If you are planning to travel to China, Lugu Lake is undoubtedly a must-visit destination. Let's take a closer look at this mysterious “Daughter Kingdom” and unveil its secrets.

Mythical Legend: The Origins of Lugu Lake

Lugu Lake lies at the border of Yunnan Province’s Lijiang City and Sichuan Province’s Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture. It is a boundary lake between the two provinces.

There are many mysterious and beautiful legends surrounding the origins of Lugu Lake. One of the most popular stories is about the love affair between the Goddess Gemu and a distant male mountain god. According to the tale, while the Goddess Gemu was secretly meeting the male mountain god, she heard the sound of a horse neighing and chased after it. She eventually cried at the hoofprint, and her tears turned into the lake we see today. The pearls and flower seeds dropped by the male god turned into the small islands in the lake.

These myths not only add a layer of mystery to Lugu Lake but also make it a romantic destination for many.

Mosuo culture: The Mysterious “Daughter Kingdom”

The Mosuo people, who live around Lugu Lake, are one of the last matrilineal societies in China, which is why Lugu Lake is often referred to as “China’s Last Daughter Kingdom.”

In Mosuo villages, traditional ways of life are still preserved, and they make a living through fishing, hunting, and agriculture, leading a simple and pure life. Here, visitors can learn about the Mosuo people’s “walking marriage” system and experience their unique concepts of marriage and family.

This cultural phenomenon is not only rare in China but also globally, making Lugu Lake a mysterious place of interest for many travelers.

From May to October each year, the lake is adorned with a small white flower called "water-loving poplar," which clusters around yellow stamens and shines brilliantly in the sunlight, adding vibrancy to the already breathtaking landscape.

Shopping on Nanjing Road in Shanghai was just amazing! It's truly the "First Commercial Street of China", where tradition and modernity blend perfectly. You can find awesome souvenirs and experience the trendy vibes in cool stores. The neon lights at night are just spectacular, shining bright like Times Square in New York. The food here is incredible too. I had a feast for my taste buds. Shanghai, I'll definitely be back!

Our 2-day Zhangjiajie tour was beyond spectacular! As someone who’s visited Beijing and Shanghai for work, this trip revealed China’s wild, magical heart. Day 1 in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park felt like stepping onto Pandora—I’m a huge Avatar fan, and Yuanjiajie’s floating peaks left me breathless. The misty pillars and lush valleys like pure movie magic! Then came Fenghuang Ancient Town, we eat dinner beside the thundering waterfall. It seems Unreal! The night views of stilt houses glowing over the river were straight from a fairy tale. For fellow Avatar lovers and adventure seekers: Don’t miss this bucket-list experience! 10/10 would return.
