Everything You Need to Know About Yunnan’s Weather
Yunnan offers a mild spring with blooming flowers, a warm but rainy summer, a clear and pleasant autumn ideal for outdoor activities, and a generally mild winter with occasional cold spells at higher altitudes, making it a year-round destination with diverse weather conditions and attractions.
spring (March to May): Spring in Yunnan is mild and pleasant, with average temperatures ranging from 10°C to 20°C in March, rising to 14°C to 23°C in April, and reaching 17°C to 26°C in May. The temperature difference between day and night can be significant, so it’s advisable to wear layers. Precipitation is generally low in early spring but starts to increase slightly towards May, with occasional light rain. Spring is a beautiful time to explore Yunnan’s blooming flowers, such as cherry blossoms in Dali and rhododendrons in Lijiang.
Summer (June to August): Yunnan's summer is warm but not as humid as in other parts of China. Average temperatures range from 18°C to 27°C in June, 19°C to 26°C in July, and 18°C to 25°C in August. This is also the rainy season, with frequent showers, especially in July and August. The rain tends to come in short bursts, often in the late afternoon or evening. Despite the rain, summer in Yunnan is a great time to visit its lush green landscapes and enjoy cooler temperatures compared to the rest of China.
autumn (September to November): Autumn in Yunnan is one of the best seasons for travel, with clear skies, little rain, and pleasant temperatures. Average temperatures range from 17°C to 24°C in September, dropping to 13°C to 21°C in October, and further to 8°C to 17°C in November. Precipitation decreases significantly after the rainy season, making this an ideal time for outdoor activities like hiking in the Tiger Leaping Gorge or exploring the stone forests of Kunming. The cool evenings and golden autumn landscapes make for a picturesque season.
Winter (December to February): Winter in Yunnan is cool but generally mild, especially in areas like Kunming, known as the "Spring City" for its year-round pleasant weather. Average temperatures range from 5°C to 15°C in December, dropping to 4°C to 12°C in January, and warming slightly to 6°C to 15°C in February. While most areas experience dry and sunny winters, higher altitudes, like Shangri-La, can see colder temperatures and occasional snow. Winter is an excellent time to visit Yunnan’s hot springs or explore cultural sites in the warmer lowlands.

Shopping on Nanjing Road in Shanghai was just amazing! It's truly the "First Commercial Street of China", where tradition and modernity blend perfectly. You can find awesome souvenirs and experience the trendy vibes in cool stores. The neon lights at night are just spectacular, shining bright like Times Square in New York. The food here is incredible too. I had a feast for my taste buds. Shanghai, I'll definitely be back!

As a solo traveler from Canada, I was nervous about navigating China alone—but this 11-day tour was PERFECT! Our 2-day Zhangjiajie tour was beyond spectacular! As someone who’s visited Beijing and Shanghai for work, this trip revealed China’s wild, magical heart. Day 1 in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park felt like stepping onto Pandora—I’m a huge Avatar fan, and Yuanjiajie’s floating peaks left me breathless. The misty pillars and lush valleys like pure movie magic!
Then came Fenghuang Ancient Town, we eat dinner beside the thundering waterfall. It seems Unreal! The night views of stilt houses glowing over the river were straight from a fairy tale.
For fellow Avatar lovers and adventure seekers: Don’t miss this bucket-list experience! 10/10 would return.
