Founded in 1419 by Jamchen Chojey Sakya Yeshe, Sera Monastery is one of Tibet’s "Great Three" Gelugpa monasteries, alongside Ganden and Drepung. It played a pivotal role in political and religious reforms, notably during the tenure of the 5th Hotzin Lama, who served as regent before his mysterious death in 1947 amid power struggles with the Dalai Lama’s government.
