Beijing Climate: A Complete Overview of Weather by Season

Beijing has a continental climate with hot summers, cold winters, and mild spring and autumn, making it best to visit in spring or autumn for pleasant weather.

spring (March to May): Temperatures in Beijing gradually rise in spring, but there is still a certain temperature difference. average temperatures range from 1°C to 11°C in March, rising to 8°C to 19°C in April, and reaching 15°C to 25°C in May. Precipitation gradually increases in spring, but overall the amount of rain is moderate, mostly light rain or showers. Spring in Beijing is a sunny and revitalizing time for enjoying flowers and trekking. However, there is a big difference in temperature between morning and evening, so care should be taken to keep warm.

Summer (June to August): Beijing is hot and humid in summer, with average temperatures ranging from 20°C to 30°C or even higher. July and August are particularly hot, with average temperatures ranging from 23°C to 31°C. The summer months are characterized by rain and rainfall. Summer is Beijing's rainy season, with a marked increase in precipitation, frequent thunderstorms and heavy rainfall. As Beijing is hot and rainy in summer, people need to pay attention to preventing heatstroke and rain and humidity. Meanwhile, the body temperature may be higher due to high humidity.

autumn (September to November): Temperatures in Beijing gradually drop in the fall, but are relatively mild and pleasant. average temperatures range from 18°C to 26°C in September, dropping to 12°C to 20°C in October, and further to 3°C to 11°C in November. Precipitation in fall is reduced compared to summer, but there are still some rainy days. The sky is high in Beijing in the fall, making it a good season for travel and outdoor activities. The scenery in Beijing is also particularly attractive at this time, with the maple leaves turning red and the forests covered in color.

Winter (December to February): Beijing is cold and dry in winter, with average temperatures ranging from -4°C to 2°C (January) and -3°C to 4°C (February), dropping gradually as the winter progresses. Precipitation is low in winter, mainly snowfall, but not much. In winter, Beijing is cold and dry with howling north winds, so people need to pay attention to keeping warm and preventing cold. At the same time, as there are more sunny days in winter, it is also a good time to enjoy snow scenery and snow sports.

Shopping on Nanjing Road in Shanghai was just amazing! It's truly the "First Commercial Street of China", where tradition and modernity blend perfectly. You can find awesome souvenirs and experience the trendy vibes in cool stores. The neon lights at night are just spectacular, shining bright like Times Square in New York. The food here is incredible too. I had a feast for my taste buds. Shanghai, I'll definitely be back!

As a solo traveler from Canada, I was nervous about navigating China alone—but this 11-day tour was PERFECT! From hiking the Great Wall at sunrise (Day 3) to gasping at the Terracotta Army (Day 5), every day delivered ‘pinch-me’ moments. The real showstopper? Zhangjiajie’s Avatar Mountains (Day 7)! Our guide made the stone pillars come alive with stories. Massive thanks for handling all logistics—bullet train tickets, entry passes, car! And the 4-star hotels surprised me.

Our 2-day Zhangjiajie tour was beyond spectacular! As someone who’s visited Beijing and Shanghai for work, this trip revealed China’s wild, magical heart. Day 1 in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park felt like stepping onto Pandora—I’m a huge Avatar fan, and Yuanjiajie’s floating peaks left me breathless. The misty pillars and lush valleys like pure movie magic! Then came Fenghuang Ancient Town, we eat dinner beside the thundering waterfall. It seems Unreal! The night views of stilt houses glowing over the river were straight from a fairy tale. For fellow Avatar lovers and adventure seekers: Don’t miss this bucket-list experience! 10/10 would return.
